Las Cruces Man Arrested After Nearly Running Down His Wife

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – A 27-year-old man was arrested after threatening to run over his wife late Sunday evening.

Manuel Pando Valdez Jr., 27, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, battery against a family member and criminal damage to property.

Shortly after 10:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, Las Cruces Police were called to the 200 block of east Chestnut Avenue. Police learned that the couple was arguing over a $100 bill. At some point during the argument Valdez struck his mother-in-law with a tricycle and kicked her car, damaging the driver's side door.

Before leaving the area Valdez drove his Chevy Silverado pickup, at a high rate of speed, toward his wife. He stopped just short of striking her.

Valdez left the area but was located and detained a short while later by a Las Cruces Police officer. Valdez was transported to the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $12,000.
