Las Cruces Man Arrested In Assault At Victim's Home

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – Las Cruces Police arrested a 22-year-old who used a hammer and golf club to physically assault another man Sunday evening.

Aaron Joel Trujillo, 22, of the 1000 block of Moon River Loop, is charged with two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Shortly after 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, Las Cruces Police were called to a residence on the 900 block of north Tornillo Street after someone physically assaulted the homeowner. The 44-year-old victim received injuries to his head and was transported to a local hospital. His injuries were not life-threatening.

Detectives learned that Trujillo, because of a previous dispute between the men, went to the victim's residence and pounded on the front door. When the homeowner answered the door, Trujillo struck the man on the head with a hammer and then a golf club. After the attack, Trujillo ran to a white van and fled from the area.

Las Cruces Police officers located Trujillo later Sunday evening. He was detained for questioning and subsequently arrested on the charges. Trujillo was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $10,000.
