Las Cruces Man Arrested In Beating

Las Cruces – A 41-year-old woman is in critical condition at an El Paso, Texas, hospital and police have arrested the man believed to be responsible for her injuries.

Tommy Lucero, 29, of the 2200 block of Missouri Avenue, is charged with one felony count of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm and one count of tampering with evidence. Lucero was transported to the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $15,000.

The victim was airlifted to University Medical Center of El Paso with severe head trauma and multiple injuries to her arms.

At around 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, Las Cruces Police were dispatched to 1716 south Solano Dr. after the victim was discovered unconscious inside her apartment. Las Cruces firefighters and emergency medical personnel tended to her injuries until she was transported to El Paso.

Lucero was known to have a relationship with the victim. Detectives were able to gather enough information and evidence from Lucero's apartment to file charges against him.

The victim remains in critical condition at UMC. Detectives are continuing their investigation into the incident.
