Las Cruces Man Arrested For False Imprisonment

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – Las Cruces Police had to force their way into a home and arrest a man who was holding down his pregnant ex-girlfriend and refusing to allow her to leave.

Andres Vargas, 30, is charged with one count of false imprisonment, a fourth-degree felony.

Shortly before 2 a.m. on Tuesday, July 12, a 23-year-old woman called 911 to report that Vargas, her ex-boyfriend, was harassing her. Las Cruces Police officers responded and located a vehicle belong to Vargas outside the residence.

Officers knocked on the door and announced their presence but no one from inside the home responded. Officers also attempted to reach the woman by telephone but there was no answer. As officers continued to make contact with someone inside the home, they heard the woman scream for help.

The officers forced entry into the home and found the couple inside a bedroom with Vargas holding the woman down. Officers gave Vargas several commands to let the woman go but he repeatedly refused to do so. Officers then had to physically pull Vargas off the woman and restrain him.

The woman, who is 7-months pregnant, appeared to have been bitten by Vargas but was otherwise uninjured.

Vargas was subsequently transported to the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $5,000.
