By KRWG News

Las Cruces – A man suspected of firing a handgun toward two motorists Friday in the parking lot of a busy shopping center has been arrested and charged with a felony.

Ezikiel B. Diaz, 30, of 1229 Pecos Street, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and one count of shooting at or from a motor vehicle.

Las Cruces Police learned that at around 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2, a woman and her boyfriend were driving through the parking lot of the Factory 2-U store, at 1225 El Paseo Road, where the incident occurred. Police were told that a Hispanic man, later identified as Diaz, was driving a black Honda Accord when he pulled up alongside the couple, yelled at them and then fired one gunshot toward their vehicle.

The gunshot is believed to have struck the ground and no injuries were reported.

Diaz and his vehicle were located on Saturday in the parking lot of an area motel. Diaz was positively identified as the suspected shooter and was charged with the crime on Saturday evening.

Diaz is being held at the Dona Ana County Detention Center with a cash-only bond set at $25,000.
