By KRWG News

Las Cruces – Las Cruces Police arrested a man who threatened his girlfriend with a handgun and kept her from leaving his apartment early Saturday morning.

Chad M. Gordon, 22, of 2330 Nevada Ave., is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery against a household member, false imprisonment, battery, criminal damage to property and interference with communication.

Las Cruces Police were called to the suspect's apartment at around 9 a.m. Saturday, July 9. Police learned that Gordon and his 20-year-old girlfriend became involved in an argument during the overnight hours. Sometime early Saturday morning the woman left to her apartment but, realizing she had left her purse at Gordon's place, drove back to retrieve her belongings.

As the woman arrived at Gordon's apartment, Gordon confronted her at the doorway and threatened her with a black handgun. During the course of the argument Gordon attempted to strangle the woman, and destroyed her cell phone and keys in the garbage disposal.

After Gordon settled down and fell asleep, the woman used his cell phone to call 911 and summon police. Gordon awoke and fled the apartment but was located a short while later at his sister's residence.

The victim's physical injuries were relatively minor.

Gordon was transported to the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $19,000.
