Las Cruces Man Arrested In Weekend Stabbing

Doña Ana County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 20-year-old Las Cruces man early Saturday morning after he allegedly stabbed another man for refusing to give him a beer.

Deputies were called to the 800 block of Watson Lane just after 4 a.m. Sept. 28. According to a witness that was with the victim, Daniel Villa approached the two and asked for a beer. The victim refused, which led to a physical altercation between Villa and the victim.

Villa reportedly began to walk away, but then turned around and offered to shake the victim’s hand. When the victim obliged, Villa allegedly stabbed the victim twice, once in the abdomen and again in the chest. He then fled the scene, but was found shortly afterwards inside a neighboring residence.

Investigators arrested Villa, charging him with aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, tampering with evidence and resisting or obstructing. He was reportedly on probation at the time of the stabbing and therefore is being held without bond at the Doña Ana County Detention Center.

The victim, who is 34 years old, was taken to an El Paso-area hospital where he remains in critical condition.
