Las Cruces Man Charged After Shooting
No injuries were reported but two men and a woman have been charged in connection with a Sunday evening shooting at a mobile home on Bataan Memorial West.
Avery Hamilton, 27, Jennifer C. Cullins, 32, and 30-year-old Michael David Trujillo were each charged for their role in the shooting that occurred sometime after 6 p.m. Sunday, May 5, at 4175 Bataan Memorial West.
Hamilton is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of tampering with evidence, one count of shooting at an occupied building and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon. Cullins is charged with one count of tampering with evidence and Trujillo faces one count of receiving stolen property.
Detectives learned that Hamilton and Cullins had a disagreement with a friend who resided at 4175 Bataan Memorial West and were supposed to pick up some personal property that was at that location. Shortly after 6 p.m. Hamilton apparently became upset and fired at least one shot at the mobile home from a 12 gauge shotgun.
The two occupants of the residence hid inside the mobile home during the shooting.
Hamilton and Cullins fled the area in Hamilton’s pickup and drove to a home on Sexton Lane where Trujillo took possession of the shotgun.
Hamilton and Cullins were arrested late Sunday evening, and Trujillo was arrested Monday morning. Hamilton was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with no bond and Cullins is being held on a $5,000 bond. Trujillo had several outstanding warrants for his arrest and is being held on a combined $20,000 bond.
