Las Cruces Man Convicted In 2007 Death Of Daughter

A Las Cruces man accused of leaving his baby daughter in a laundry basket full of unfolded clothes has been convicted in the child's death.

An Albuquerque jury on Thursday found 28-year-old Robert Flores guilty of negligent child abuse resulting in death and tampering with evidence.

Flores allegedly left the baby alone so he could leave his house to buy beer in 2007.

Defense attorneys successfully moved to have the trial relocated from Las Cruces because of publicity.

Prosecutors say the child abuse charge carries a mandatory 18-year sentence.

The Las Cruces Sun-News reports that Flores is scheduled to be sentenced next month, barring an appeal.
