Authorities say a 73-year-old Las Cruces man involved in a crash with a Dona Ana County Sheriff's Office deputy has died.

Las Cruces police say Wayne Myers received what was initially described as a shoulder injury in the July 2 crash.

He was treated at a hospital and released.

Police say Myers developed complications, was hospitalized again and died Aug. 14.

The county medical investigator's office believes the death stemmed from medical complications related to the crash.

Police investigated the accident. They say the deputy was en route to a call, was using lights and siren on his marked unit and came to a stop at an intersection before the crash occurred.

No citations were issued. The incident has been referred to the Third Judicial District Attorney's Office for review.
