Las Cruces Man Sentenced In Health Clinic Scheme

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) — A Las Cruces man has been sentenced to more than two years in prison for charges stemming for a scheme related to a dubious treatment he had offered patients at his health clinic.

Federal prosecutors say Carl Emanuel Haese was sentenced last week to 27 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release for his wire fraud conviction.

Haese must also pay more than $164,000 in restitution and a $10,000 fine.

Prosecutors say as part of the scheme, Haese defrauded patients who were seeking treatment for Lyme disease. He claimed to have a secret protocol that was 100 percent successful.

He charged patients $5,000 for the treatment.

By the time of Haese's sentencing hearing, prosecutors say 21 victims had submitted verified claims for restitution.
