Police arrested a Las Cruces man suspected of trying to extort a woman by offering to delete explicit photos in exchange for sex.
William D. Gonzalez, 28, of the 4900 block of Bosworth Road, is charged with a third-degree felony count of extortion and two misdemeanor counts – one for harassment and one for voyeurism.
Las Cruces Police investigators learned that Gonzalez, over a three-day period, sent more than 100 text messages to a woman and called her 30 times. When the woman would not respond, Gonzalez is suspected of threatening to publicly reveal naked photos of the woman.
Investigators learned that Gonzalez obtained the photos without consent and without the woman’s knowledge.
In one of the text messages, Gonzalez allegedly suggested he would delete the explicit photos and stop interfering with the woman if she agreed to have sex with him.
Gonzalez was arrested Saturday, June 10, and booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center where he’s being held on a cash bond set at $100,000.
