Las Cruces Man Suspected of Beating Girlfriend and her Mother

Police arrested a Las Cruces man suspected of beating his girlfriend and her mother Saturday evening.

James Moreno, 43, of the 9000 block of Horace Lane, is charged with one count each of aggravated assault against a household member, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, larceny of a firearm, battery against a household member and battery.

At about 8:45 p.m. Saturday, June 17, Las Cruces Police were dispatched to the 5000 block of Davis Road where the incident is alleged to have occurred. Officers learned that Moreno physically assaulted his 38-year-old girlfriend and her 55-year-old mother.

Their injuries were not life-threatening.

Investigators learned that Moreno restrained or confined his girlfriend against her will. He’s also suspected of taking a firearm away from the woman’s parents and using it to threaten the women.

Moreno fled from the area before police arrived but officers located him a short while later and took him into custody. Officers recovered the firearm during their investigation.

Moreno was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center where he’s being held on a $50,000 cash-only bond.
