Las Cruces Man Suspected of Pointing Handgun at Neighbors

Police arrested a Las Cruces man suspected of pointing a handgun at two neighbors during a heated argument Sunday evening.

Adrian Salas, 31, of the 4900 block of Calle Bella, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of negligent use of a deadly weapon.

At about 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 26, Las Cruces Police were dispatched to the report of an affray on the 4900 block of Calle Bella. Officers arrived to find Salas who acknowledged having consumed a few alcoholic beverages before the incident.

Investigators learned that Salas and a neighbor were having issues because their children, both young boys, got into some type of scuffle earlier in the day. Salas and the neighbor began arguing outside a home and the dispute escalated when the wives of both men went outside.

Detectives believe that during the argument Salas retrieved a handgun from his pickup and threatened the two neighbors with it. No shots were fired and no injuries were reported, but the neighbors both indicated that they were threatened by Salas.

Police located the 9mm handgun in the bed of Salas’ pickup.

Salas was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center where he was held on a $4,000 bond. He posted bond and was released Mondayafternoon.
