Las Cruces Man Suspected of Using Hammer to Strike Roommate

Police arrested a Las Cruces man suspected of using a hammer to strike his roommate multiple times on the head.

Jacob A. Stick, 25, is charged with one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. The charge is a third-degree felony count.

Shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, Las Cruces Police were dispatched to the 2100 block of Solar Way where the incident occurred. Officers located a 25-year-old man outside the residence with injuries to his head. The victim lost consciousness for a moment before he was transported to a local hospital.

His injuries were not considered to be life-threatening.

Investigators learned that Stick and the victim got into an argument inside the home sometime on Tuesday. The 25-year-old victim and his girlfriend left for a short time but, when they returned, Stick was apparently still agitated.

Stick is believed to have confronted the roommate in the front yard where he used a small hammer to strike the man multiple times. Stick then attempted to conceal the hammer before re-entering the residence. A neighbor witnessed the attack and helped provide aid to the victim until emergency medical technicians arrived.

Stick was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center where he was initially being held without bond.
