Las Cruces Mayor Ken Miyagishima joined U.S. Sen.Tom Udall
on Capitol Hill yesterday for a discussion on strengthening local economic development efforts in communities across the state and nation. “Las Cruces is working to build a diverse and vibrant economy. I was proud to host Mayor Miyagishima to discuss how we can continue supporting smart infrastructure and workforce investments in communities like Las Cruces,” Udall said. “Our meeting was an important forum to ensure that federal programs support the efforts of local leaders like Ken who are on the front lines of building a strong economy from the middle-class out.” “Las Cruces is a community with great educational and technological resources, and I was pleased to attend the meeting with Sen. Udall to share the ways we are meeting budgetary challenges with innovation and modernization,” said Mayor Miyagishima. “We must work with federal leaders to create healthy tax and workforce environments and invest in local infrastructure projects that will rebuild schools, fix roads and highways, and put people back to work.” Mayor Miyagishima was in Washington as part of a bipartisan group of mayors from the U.S. Conference of Mayors and attended the meeting organized by the Senate Democratic Steering and Outreach Committee.
