Las Cruces Mayoral Forum Thursday Night

SWOP Action Fund Dona Ana, Nopalito’s Galeria and PRC Productions will be hosting a Las Cruces Mayoral Candidate Forum for citizens, members, family and friends and community residents who would like to meet and greet those candidates running to be the next Mayor of the City of Las Cruces.

Confirmed are all candidates running for Mayor, small business owner, Eugina “Gina” Montoya Ortega, current City Councilor Miguel Silva and current Mayor Ken Miyagishima.

This forum will be videotaped by PRC Productions and so audience members and those who ask questions will be captured and video will be posted on the swopaction.org website. Troy Scoughton owner of PRC Productions says “This is the type of process that I can get behind and support. When we can bring people together who come from different backgrounds and be part of the process.”

Members in the audience will have an opportunity to ask a question, but the question should be asked in 30 seconds and be directed towards all Mayoral candidates. Questions should be based on issues and concerns that impact citizens in Las Cruces. There will be a panel of members and community residents that will also ask questions and the Mayoral candidates will have two minutes to answer questions. Candidates will have a three minute opportunity at the beginning of forum to introduce themselves and inform citizens why they are seeking the office of Mayor and two minutes at the end of forum for closing remarks and ask citizens for their vote.

Victor Gallegos whose family owns Nopalitos restaurant and Galeria welcomes the opportunity to bring people together to have this opportunity to meet the Mayoral candidates at the family’s Galeria “The arts and politics have always gelled together in our culture and tradition and I believe we have a responsibility to our community to create these spaces for our family, friends and neighbors who want to be informed, engaged and educated voters, where else to have such an event like this right here in the Mesquite historic district of Las Cruces off the El Camino trail?”

This is a non-partisan event and an opportunity for those who are registered to vote in the Las Cruces Municipal election to meet and greet the Mayoral Candidates and ask questions. Forum will begin at 6pm sharp and organizers are asking for those planning to attend to get there early, seating is limited.
