Las Cruces Mobile Operations Center At Highland Elementary

Las Cruces Police will park its Mobile Operations Command center near Highland Elementary School beginning Sunday. Officers will have an increased presence along the Sonoma Ranch Blvd. and Las Colinas residential area through December 24, 2014.

Offices will work out of the MOC and have around the clock patrols of the residential area along the Las Colinas and Sonoma Ranch Boulevard neighborhoods.

The MOC will be parked in the parking lot of Highland Elementary, beginning Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014. The MOC will be manned 24 hours a day through Wednesday evening, Dec. 24, 2014. No appointment is necessary to visit with a police officer while the MOC is stationed at Highland Elementary School.

LCPD offers these shopping safety tips:

  • Do not leave personal electronics, valuables or merchandise visible in a vehicle. Conceal those items in a trunk or take them home before continuing to shop.
  • Roll up windows and lock doors when leaving vehicle.
  • Do not allow young children to shop or walk around stores on their own.
  • Avoid placing a purse in a shopping cart. Either carry a purse close to your body or leave the purse home and carry a wallet in a front pocket.
  • When possible pay for items with a credit or debit card and avoid having to carry large amounts of cash while shopping.
  • Do not overburden yourself by carrying too many bags or packages – especially in darkened or busy parking lots.
  • Have automobile keys ready, in your hand, prior to leaving the store.
  • If shopping after dark, park in a well-lighted area and near the storefront.
  • Another good parking option is to park near the shopping cart return “corral” so you can unload merchandise and return the cart easily.
  • Do not hesitate to ask store security for an escort to your vehicle.

Always be aware of your surroundings and report any suspicious activity.
