Las Cruces Mother of Three Indicted on Child Abuse

Today, District Attorney Mark D’Antonio announced that a grand jury has indicted a Las Cruces mother of three charged with child abuse.

Authorities said Stacy Adams, 29, was arrested after police found her home filled with trash and dirty diapers. According to investigators, the defendant’s children – ages 8, 6 and 1 – had not bathed since early January and appeared to have lice in their hair.

“It’s a disturbing case,” D'Antonio said “I don’t want to think about what would have happened if the CYFD worker and Las Cruces police did not intervene.”

The defendant was indicted on three counts of child abuse, all third-degree felonies. If convicted as charged, she faces a possible maximum sentence of nine years behind bars.
