By KRWG News

Las Cruces – Las Cruces City Manager Robert Garza announced today the selection of the first of two new assistant city managers, who will also serve as chief operating officer.

Selected for the position is City of Las Cruces Facilities Director Brian Denmark, who has served as interim assistant city manager since early January. Denmark will officially begin his new position on Monday, April 25th.

Denmark, 49, became interim assistant city manager after Garza, who was the assistant city manager, took over as city manager January 1st.

"Mr. Denmark has illustrated his ability to perform exceptionally well in this role," Garza said. "He has a fantastic r sum that covers more than 25 years of municipal government experience, with the last 20 years in managerial positions within the City of Las Cruces where he performed administrative, management, budget and fiscal policy development, staff training and recruiting, operations, strategic planning and performance budgeting. His municipal experience includes various city positions including planning director, community development director and facilities director," Garza said.

As the City's facilities director for the last six years, Denmark and his staff facilitated the development of several high profile projects including the successful completion of the new City Hall, Las Cruces Convention Center, Las Cruces Regional Aquatics Center, Laabs Pool, East Mesa Bataan Memorial Pool, City park development and countless other facility enhancements.

"Having served in this interim position for nearly four months now, I have a firm grasp of the duties and responsibilities. I've already hit the ground running and am looking forward to continuing on. I am fortunate to work with a truly talented group of City employees who have the public's best interests at heart," Denmark said.

Denmark will oversee the Community Development, Facilities, Public Services and Public Works departments.

He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from New Mexico State University and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in geography with an emphasis in urban planning from the University of Northern Colorado.

Denmark is a certified professional planner and is an active member of several professional associations.

The search for the second assistant city manager/chief financial officer is currently underway.

Las Cruces says the naming of two assistant city managers will not result in a budget increase since both are existing department head positions.
