Las Cruces Names Interim City Attorney

Las Cruces – Harry "Pete" Connelly has been named interim Las Cruces City Attorney
effective February 16th. Connelly will serve in that capacity during the
search process to replace outgoing City Attorney Fermin Rubio who will
retire on Feb. 28th.

Connelly has been deputy city attorney since 1994 and served as acting
city attorney for 18-months. He received his Juris Doctor from Washburn
University School of Law and his Master of Law from Georgetown College
of Law.

He is the only certified local government law specialist in the Third
Judicial District, which encompasses all of Dona Ana County.

Connelly was elected president of the New Mexico Municipal Lawyer's
Association (NMLA) for the year 2009. The NMLA is composed of full time
and contract attorneys employed by municipalities belonging to the New
Mexico Municipal League.

In another inter-office move, Senior Assistant City Attorney Jared
Abrahams has been named interim deputy city attorney. Abrahams has been
with the Las Cruces City Attorney's office since 2006.
