Las Cruces Parents Of Four Charged With Child Abuse

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – Las Cruces Police have charged the parents of four with child abuse after their home was found to have unsanitary living conditions.

Virginia Murray, 29, and Michael Murray, 32, both of the 1516 Monte Vista Ave., are charged with one count each of negligent child abuse.

Las Cruces Police were called to the Murray's residence on Jan. 5 by someone who heard Virginia Murray screaming at her children. When officers arrived and entered the home to check on the welfare of the children, they were met with foul and pungent odors emitting from the apartment.

Detectives observed trash, excessive piles of dirty clothing, food crumbs, and unidentifiable stains and debris throughout the residence. Detectives also noticed a strong odor of urine in the bedroom where the children slept.

Virginia and Michael Murray were arrested Friday, Jan. 6, and were incarcerated at the Dona Ana County Detention Center. Their children, ages 4-11, have been placed in the temporary custody of the state's Children, Youth and Families Department.
