Las Cruces Plans Water Conservation Advisory Group

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – The City of Las Cruces Utilities Board is seeking qualified city residents to serve on the community advisory group for its Water Conservation Program.

It has been widely accepted that the most cost-effective way to extend water resources is through conservation. Conservation programs are only successful if they have a long-term focus and continual stakeholder involvement and it is the City's goal to form a stakeholder group that will assist the Water Conservation Program in this manner.

The objectives of the group will include:

Developing a list of conservation measures to consider for implementation

Developing screening criteria to prioritize measures that could be implemented

Reviewing draft recommendations for a state-required stand alone water conservation plan.

The group will tentatively meet on a quarterly basis. All recommendations will then be forwarded to the City Utility Board for final consideration. Applicants should have technical expertise in the one or more of the following areas: Business/economic development, commercial/industrial, green industry, environmental interest groups, plumbing or appliance distribution, hotels/restaurants, development and homeowners.

Interested applicants should submit a letter of interest and a resume to Christine Y. Chavez, Water Conservation Coordinator, P.O. Box 20000. Las Cruces, NM 88004 by no later than October 10th.

For more information, contact Christine Y. Chavez at 575/528-3549 or at chrchavez@las-cruces.org.
