The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department will plant 500 trees in partnership with Groundwork Doña Ana (GWDA), a local non-profit, at local parks and public grounds this summer. GWDA received a Youth Conservation Corps grant that will fund the “Green Team” youth crews.
The Green Team will perform labor for excavating the planting pits, planting the trees, installing supportive irrigation, and providing final site cleanup. The Parks & Recreation Department will determine planting locations, provide and deliver trees to the planting site, and provide training and support for the Green Team crews.
The first plantings began May 18 at Valley View Park and will resume May 25.
Tuesday, May 28, through July, trees will be planted at Young Park, Legends West Park, Apodaca Park, the East Mesa Recreation Center, Oro Vista Park, Camelot Gardens Park, and other parks throughout Las Cruces. The project is scheduled for completion in late July.
