By KRWG News

Las Cruces – Police arrested a 19-year-old Las Cruces man who broke into at least six vehicles Sunday morning.

Orlando Estrada, 19, of the 1000 block of Luna Street, is charged with six counts of larceny from a vehicle.

Shortly before 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, Las Cruces Police were called to the 1900 block of Klein Avenue where at least six vehicles in the neighborhood were broken into and various personal belongs were taken.

A homeowner told police that, earlier that morning, he saw Estrada trying to hide in a neighbor's yard. Shortly thereafter the homeowner learned that several vehicles had been broken into.

The homeowner called police and then spotted Estrada in the neighborhood for a second time that morning. The homeowner attempted to confront the suspect but Estrada took off running toward his residence, a couple of blocks away. An LCPD officer arrived just in time to see Estrada running from the area.

The LCPD officer caught up to Estrada and detained him for questioning. Officers later confirmed Estrada's involvement in the burglaries after they located some of the stolen items at his residence.

Estrada was arrested and booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $30,000.
