Las Cruces Police Arrest Man Charged With Stabbing Teen At Party

The man suspected of stabbing a 16-year-old boy during a brawl at a party early Friday morning has been arrested by Las Cruces Police.

Pascual Jose Diaz, 25, is charged with one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

The 16-year-old boy was taken by a friend to Memorial Medical Center and then airlifted to University Medical Center of El Paso. His injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.

Shortly after 2 a.m. Friday, June 20, Las Cruces Police were dispatched simultaneously to Memorial Medical Center and to The Grove apartments, at 320 E. Union Ave., where the stabbing is believed to have occurred.

Detectives learned that Diaz was at a party at The Grove when some individuals got into a fight just outside one of the apartments. Diaz allegedly jumped into the melee and began stabbing the 16-year-old boy.

The boy received at least three stab wounds during the altercation.

Witnesses to the altercation gave police a good physical description of the suspect who fled from the apartment complex.

Early Sunday morning Las Cruces Police were dispatched to the report of an affray at 900 E. Madrid Ave. While speaking to witnesses there, including Diaz, officers determined that Diaz was the suspect in Friday morning’s stabbing at The Grove.

Diaz was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with a cash-only bond set at $25,000.
