By KRWG News

Las Cruces – Las Cruces Police arrested a man who entered a home early Saturday morning and sexually assaulted an 11-year-old girl as she slept.

Devin W. Acosta, whose address was listed in San Antonio, N.M., is charged with criminal sexual contact of a minor and aggravated burglary.

Shortly after 4 a.m. on Saturday, June 11, Las Cruces Police were called to a home on the 3300 block of Blueridge Lane where the incident occurred. Police learned that a man, later identified as Acosta, entered the home without permission and opened a bedroom door to the surprise of the victim's 16-year-old sister.

Detectives learned that the 16-year-old assumed Acosta was a friend of her mother's who was across the street at a social gathering.

Acosta quickly closed the bedroom door and entered another bedroom where the 11-year-old and her younger brother were asleep. Acosta proceeded to fondle, and attempted to kiss, the 11-year-old girl.

The girl's older sister attempted to gain entry into the bedroom but the door was locked. After a short while, Acosta exited the bedroom and claimed to the sister that he was in the wrong house. Acosta quickly left the home but was detained by Las Cruces Police officers a short distance away.

Police later learned that Acosta had been at the same party where the victim's mother was prior to entering her home uninvited.

Acosta was incarcerated at the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $35,000.
