Las Cruces Police Arrest Man For Knife Injury To Mother

Las Cruces Police arrested a man suspected of using a knife to attack his mother during an argument Monday evening.

Anthony Jaramillo, 24, of the 1500 block of La Fonda Drive, is charged with one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Shortly before 7 p.m. Monday, July 21, Las Cruces Police were dispatched to a report of a physical altercation at Jaramillo’s home. Detectives learned that Jaramillo’s mother had gone to his residence to see her grandson.

Detectives learned that Jaramillo quickly became upset that his mother was there and began yelling at her. Jaramillo was apparently upset with his mother because she had identified her son as a suspect in an unrelated criminal investigation.

As Jaramillo’s mother returned to her vehicle, detectives believe Jaramillo armed himself with a kitchen knife and approached his mother. Witnesses told detectives that Jaramillo reached into the open window of his mother’s vehicle and attempted to stab her.

Jaramillo’s mother defended herself and, in the process, received a superficial laceration to her left arm.

Jaramillo was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $10,000.
