Las Cruces Police Issue 101 Tickets On US 70 As Traffic Patrol Project Continues

Las Cruces Police issued 101 citations during a pair of traffic enforcement operations held on Highway 70.

The Thursday operations ran from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. The primary focus of both operations was enforcing the 45 mile per hour speed zone along Highway 70 westbound between Roadrunner Parkway and Interstate 25.

Of the 101 citations written, 88 went to drivers who were exceeding the posted speed limit along Highway 70.

Officers issuing citations also noticed a number of motorists who failed to yield to emergency vehicles that clearly displayed flashing lights. Drivers approaching an emergency vehicle with flashing lights – police car, fire truck or ambulance – should slow down and change lanes, if possible, to create a safe distance between their lane of traffic and the emergency responder.

Drivers who fail to yield to an emergency vehicle can be cited.

LCPD plans additional traffic enforcement operations in the near future.
