Las Cruces Police Need Help Identifying Man Suspected Of Stealing Another's Identity

Las Cruces Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information that helps identify a man suspected of illegally obtaining false personal information and stealing the identity of someone else.

Las Cruces Police detectives learned that since at least 2009 the man has been using the assumed alias of “Armando Ryan Alvarez.” Police believe the man who assumed that name moved to Las Cruces, presumably from San Antonio, Texas, in 2009 and used the identity of a Texas man to obtain a New Mexico driver’s license.

Since 2009, the man held at least two jobs in Las Cruces and his employers paid taxes and Social Security under his assumed name. He also obtained four loans from Sun City Finance using the assumed name and personal information.

The man’s assumed identity indicates he is 30 years old but detectives believe he may be older. Police have reason to believe he may have moved to Albuquerque, Santa Fe or another community in that vicinity.

A warrant has been obtained for the man’s arrest. He is charged with one count of identity theft and one count of fraud. Additional charges are pending.

Anyone with information that can help identify the man portraying himself to be “Armando Ryan Alvarez” is asked to call Las Cruces Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or send a tip by text message to CRIMES (274637), keyword LCTIPS.

The Crime Stoppers number and text messaging services are operational 24 hours a day and you do not have to give your name to collect a reward.
