Las Cruces Police Seek Information on Stabbing Suspect

  Las Cruces Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information that helps identify the man suspected of stabbing a 17-year-old boy Wednesday evening.

Shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, Las Cruces Police were dispatched to the report of a stabbing near the intersection of south Main Street and Melendres Street. Upon arrival, officers found a 17-year-old boy suffering from at least one stab wound.

The victim was transported to University Medical Center in El Paso where he is listed in serious but stable condition. The victim’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The victim told police that he was walking south on the sidewalk, along Main Street, when he was approached by the suspect who was walking in the opposite direction. As the two neared each other, the suspect distracted the boy and stabbed him with a sharp object.

The suspect was last seen running north along Main Street.

The suspect is described as slim, possibly a Hispanic man, wearing a dark shirt and shorts.
