Las Cruces – A Las Cruces prosecutor who worked for Gov. Susana Martinez is among six finalists recommended by a nominating commission to fill vacant judgeships in southern New Mexico.
Susan Riedel served as chief deputy district attorney in Martinez's 3rd Judicial District office.
Before taking office as governor this month, Martinez had been Dona Ana County's district attorney since 1996.
Martinez will appoint two judges to fill vacancies created by the retirement of District Judges Jerald Valentine and Stephen Bridgforth, who delivered the oath of office to Martinez at a private ceremony when she became governor on Jan. 1.
Besides Riedel, the other finalists are Marci Beyer, Keith Burn, Randy Castellano, Jacinto Palomino and Edith Reeves.
