Las Cruces Rape Suspect Faces Additional Charges

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – A 61-year-old man arrested in May on charges of raping and illegally touching a 7-year-old girl now faces several additional charges for molesting another child.

Guillermo Gonzalez, 61, of 3236 E. Missouri Avenue, was charged in May with four first-degree felony counts of criminal sexual penetration of a minor and three third-degree felony counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor.

Gonzalez is now charged with 40 additional counts of criminal sexual penetration of a child and 10 additional counts of criminal sexual contact of a child. The new charges are from incidents involving a boy who was 6 years old when the conduct began and lasted until he was 13.

On May 23 Las Cruces Police were contacted by a woman who suspected that Gonzalez may have had inappropriate contact with her daughter and son. Gonzalez was a friend of the family and lived in their home for several months.

During forensic interviews the 7-year-old girl confirmed that Gonzalez did have inappropriate contact with her. The new allegations surfaced during subsequent interviews with the girl's older brother.

Gonzalez remains incarcerated at the Dona Ana County Detention Center.

Anyone who suspects such behavior is asked to call 911 immediately or Las Cruces Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Anonymous tips also can be sent via text message to LCTIPS (528477).
