Las Cruces Residents To Hold Vigil For Murdered Albuquerque Girl

A group of Las Cruces residents will gather Sunday to hold a memorial vigil and birthday celebration to remember the life of murdered Albuquerque 10-year-old, Victoria Martens. Police found the dismembered, and battered body of Martens Wednesday morning.

Mourners continue to visit a memorial outside the Albuquerque apartment complex where the 10-year-old lived. The Baby Brianna Birthday Celebration Committee along with the Baby Brianna Foundation will be gathering to celebrate the life of Victoria Martens.

The Las Cruces vigil is scheduled for Sunday, August 28th at 6 p.m. at the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum, 4100 Dripping Springs Road, and is open to the public.

Event organizer, Orlando-Antonio Carrillo-Jiménez in an emailed statement says that the Sunday event will be a time to gather for reflection, and to celebrate the 10th birthday of Victoria Martens.

“We must come together as a people to bring an end to the horror of domestic violence, especially against our children.  The committee and foundation has made it their mission to speak out against these atrocities and make sure they are remembered with dignity and love,” says Jiménez.

Community members who plan on attending are being asked to bring a helium-filled balloon for a scheduled balloon release; attendees are invited to donate a dozen cupcakes to help with the birthday celebration portion of the memorial. Candles will be provided for the vigil as well.

Attendees who plan on bringing cupcakes are asked to contact Orlando-Antonio Carrillo-Jiménez by phone at 575-649-8644
