Las Cruces – Las Cruces firefighters and police have evacuated residents from the Golden Mesa retirement home after smoke was seen emitting from the facility.
Just before 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 20, emergency personnel were called to the complex after smoke was seen emitting from the roof of the facility. Firefighters have yet to find the cause of the smoke but believe it may be originating from an area between the main building's ceiling and roof.
No injuries have been reported and residents of the complex were evacuated as a precautionary measure. Residents were escorted to a shaded near the facility where they have been offered water and refreshments.
Motorists and those who have family or friends at the facility are asked to avoid the area at this time to allow emergency responders full access to the building.
Golden Mesa is a three-story independent senior living complex on Roadrunner Parkway.
