Las Cruces Robberies

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – Las Cruces Police are investigating two Thursday morning robberies that appear to have been committed by the same men.

Just before 12:30 a.m. today police responded to the 1000 block of south Triviz Drive after a 20-year-old woman was robbed at gunpoint. The woman told police she had just exited her vehicle when she heard footsteps of someone approaching. She was confronted by a man who threatened her with a handgun and demanded her purse. The man then jumped into an awaiting sports utility vehicle.

At around the same time, and only a short distance away, police received a call from a 27-year-old who said he was attacked by three men on the Triviz pathway near Idaho Avenue. Police learned the victim tried to run away but was caught, and assaulted, by the men who demanded money.

Neither victim was seriously injured.

Information from both incidents leads investigators to believe that the three suspects first attacked the 27-year-old man on the Triviz pathway before one of them committed the armed robbery of the 20-year-old woman.

The suspect who assaulted the woman was described as a short, Hispanic man wearing dark clothing. Police believe the three men were in a dark-colored, mid-size SUV that was last seen heading southbound on Triviz Drive.

Anyone who may have witnessed either of these assaults, or anyone with information on the identity of the suspects, is asked to call Las Cruces Crime Stoppers at 526-8000 or outside the Las Cruces area at 1-800-897-2746.
