Las Cruces Robbery Suspect Charged

Las Cruces Police charged a man suspected of stealing a jacket and baseball cap from a teenage bicyclist early Saturday evening.

Dominic A. Nieto, 19, who has addresses in Las Cruces and Truth or Consequences, N.M., is charged with one count of robbery.

Shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday, April 18, Las Cruces Police were dispatched to the area of Richard Drive and Jody Drive where a 14-year-old boy claimed he was robbed by a man who was in a silver Honda sedan.

Police learned that one of the men in the Honda approached the teenage bicyclist, exchanged words with him and then stole the teen’s Mayfield High School jacket and a baseball cap. The boy reported the incident to police but the suspect and Honda were not immediately located.

Shortly after 8 p.m. Saturday, Las Cruces Police learned that a Dona Ana County Sheriff’s deputy located the suspect at a residence on the 300 block of Richard Drive. Nieto was taken into custody and subsequently charged with the crime.

The victim’s jacket and baseball cap were eventually located at Nieto’s residence.

Nieto was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $1,500.
