Las Cruces Saturday Auction Includes 150 Vehicles

By KRWG News

Las Cruces – The public auction the City of Las Cruces is holding Saturday includes 150 vehicles that were seized in accordance with the municipal DWI forfeiture program.

Las Cruces' DWI Vehicle Forfeiture Program was initiated in February 2005 following City Council authorization. The program is an effort to reduce the number of motorists who drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The forfeiture program allows Las Cruces Police to lawfully seize an individual's vehicle following a second or subsequent DWI offense, for driving under a license revoked due to a DWI or for a violation involving a vehicle interlock system.

Proceeds from the sale of seized vehicles are used by the department for DWI prevention programs.

The public auction begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 9, at the Armando Castaneda Service Center, 1501 E. Hadley Ave. Registration for the auction begins at 7 a.m. Saturday. Items for sale can be viewed by prospective buyers from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, April 8.
