Las Cruces – Five people who declared their interest in completing an unexpired term on the LCPS Board of Education will participate in a candidate forum from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 in the board room of the LCPS Administration Building, 505 S. Main St., Loretto Towne Centre, Suite 249. The forum will be open to the public.
The five candidates for the District 2 seat, Leonel Brise o, Susan Colquitt, Victor Contreras, Barbara Hall and Tony Schaefer, will answer questions from current board members during the forum. All five completed statements of interest and the school district verified that each is at least 18 years of age, is a registered voter and lives in District 2.
At 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 16, the Board will hold a special meeting to discuss the applicants and select a new Board member. That open meeting will also be held in the board room of the LCPS Administration Building.
The District 2 vacancy was created when Serena Shoop resigned from the board effective January 31. The person selected as her replacement will serve out the remainder of her term, which expires February 28, 2013.
