Las Cruces Seeking Volunteers For Senior Transportation

The City of Las Cruces Network Volunteer Center is currently recruiting volunteers to drive seniors to and from medical appointments and for everyday needs such as grocery shopping. Volunteers will provide personalized, one-on-one rides to homebound seniors, age 60 and older, within the City of Las Cruces. Volunteers age 55 and older, enrolled in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) will be offered mileage reimbursement and provided with free, supplemental accident, liability and automobile insurance coverage while on the job.

Transportation is one of the top issues seniors face in the City of Las Cruces. Launched this month, the Volunteer Senior Transportation Service is a partnership between Dial-A-Ride, the complementary paratransit service offered by the City of Las Cruces RoadRUNNER Transit and The Network Volunteer Center to meet this growing need in our community.

The Volunteer Senior Transportation Service is a fantastic opportunity to lend a helping hand to Las Cruces seniors and to meet the increasing demand for senior transportation in the City of Las Cruces. Volunteers choose the times and days they wish to drive, and commit to providing one trip to one senior per week. Volunteer orientation and training is provided. Volunteers drive their personal vehicles, which are required to be safety-inspected prior to beginning volunteer service.
