Las Cruces, NM – The accreditation comes from the National Institute of Senior Centers which is part of the National Council on Aging.

The Munson Senior Center is the 197th senior center nationwide to receive accreditation. The center was required to meet nine standards of excellence including purpose, community, administration and human resources and programs.

Senior Centers Manager, Sally Schutte says it was a year long process to achieve accreditation and she hopes this will help the center move forward.

Schutte-"We have demonstrated outstanding leadership and commitment to quality services so we are going to continue that. Even had we not achieved this, we want to bring innovative programs here. With the process of accreditation and getting the word out we can bring to light what we have been doing well and what we want to add to that in the future."

The Munson Center is one of four centers available to Las Cruces residents who are fifty and over and serves around five thousand people. The national accreditation status is good for five years.
