Las Cruces Shooting Sends Man To Hospital

One man is being interviewed by police and another was transported to an El Paso hospital following Thursday afternoon’s shooting at Apodaca Park.

The 27-year-old man who was shot was initially transported by private vehicle to MountainView Regional Medical Center. He was then airlifted to University Medical Center of El Paso. The man had a gunshot wound to his neck but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Las Cruces Police detectives believe the shooting occurred at Apodaca Park on east Madrid Avenue. Police were dispatched to Apodaca Park shortly after 2 p.m. Thursday, May 22, and found evidence leading them to believe the shooting occurred in the parking lot between the tennis courts and baseball field.

A short while later, Las Cruces Police located another 27-year-old man believed to be involved in this incident. He and several witnesses are being interviewed by investigators.

Detectives believe a handgun was used and at least four rounds were discharged. Police later recovered the handgun believed to be used in this shooting.

No charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing.
