Las Cruces Taco Bell Customers Follow Robbery Suspect Home

Las Cruces police arrested a robbery suspect after three Taco Bell customers followed the man home Mondayevening.

Gustavo Cedeno, 41, of the 1400 block of south Espina Street, is charged with one count of robbery, a third-degree felony.

At about 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23, Las Cruces police were dispatched to the report of a possible armed robbery at the Taco Bell restaurant at 1558 El Paseo Road. Officers learned that three customers – one on a bicycle and two in a vehicle – followed the robbery suspect who ran from the restaurant to an apartment on the 1400 block of south Espina Street. There, the robbery suspect knocked on a door and was allowed inside by a woman.

Investigators learned that Cedeno ordered food at the Taco Bell. When the employee went to open the register, Cedeno indicated he had a gun and demanded all the money in the register. Cedeno took an undisclosed amount of money, left the store and fled the area on foot.

A customer inside the restaurant witnessed the incident, got on his bicycle and followed Cedeno as the suspect ran toward Espina Street. Two customers who went through the drive-thru saw the bicycle chase and also followed Cedeno. They were able to tell officers exactly what apartment Cedeno entered.

Officers arrived at the apartment and took Cedeno into custody without further incident.

Cedeno was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center where he’s initially being held without bond.
