Las Cruces Teen Arrested Again, Two Weeks Following Burglary Spree

  A 16-year-old boy arrested just two weeks ago for allegedly burglarizing vehicles in the Dale neighborhood is now suspected of stealing property from automobiles Monday evening.

Deacon Castillo now faces two additional charges of auto burglary after officers located him on Fountain Loop in the possession of property stolen from at least four vehicles.

Shortly after 9:30 p.m. Monday, April 18, Las Cruces Police were dispatched to the 1200 block of Fountain Loop and the report of a young man walking the neighborhood, checking for unlocked vehicles. Officers made contact with Castillo who was carrying a backpack and had several items reported stolen from nearby vehicles.

Items stolen from the unlocked vehicles included a Coach purse, a garage door opener and keys, a Motorola cell phone, a blue tooth speaker, two calculators, a watch, an iPad and other miscellaneous items.

Castillo was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center where he will initially be held without bond.

Castillo and 17-year-old Anthony Torres were arrested April 6 and charged for their participation in five auto burglaries on Ferndale Drive, Devondale Drive, Ellendale Avenue and Hanson Avenue. Castillo and Torres were charged on April 6 with one count each of aggravated burglary (armed after entering), conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary, possession of burglary tools, five counts of auto burglary and five counts of conspiracy.
