Las Cruces Teen Tests Positive For Meth Use; Mom Is Arrested

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) — Police say a 14-year-old Las Cruces boy has tested positive for methamphetamine and his mother and grandfather are accused of smoking the drug near his bedroom.

They say 32-year-old Corinne Irene Gomez and her father, 59-year-old Jerry Marquez, were arrested late Wednesday on suspicion of child abuse.

The two are being held without bond at the Dona Ana County Detention Center.

It was unclear Thursday if either has a lawyer yet.

Police say the teen sought medical attention for migraine headaches on June 28 and tested positive for meth in subsequent examinations.

They say Gomez and Marquez have been smoking methamphetamine in the garage of the grandfather's home, which is near the teen's bedroom.

The two tested positive for high levels of meth, indicative of prolonged use of the drug.
