Las Cruces Woman Indicted for Shooting Boyfriend

District Attorney Mark D’Antonio announced that a grand jury has indicted a Las Cruces woman accused of shooting her boyfriend with a semi-automatic handgun.

April Nastasi, 45, is charged with one count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, a third-degree felony. She is also charged with one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a fourth-degree felony, one count of obstructing an officer, a misdemeanor and one count of a negligent use of a firearm, a petty misdemeanor.

The incident is alleged to have happened on June 19 on the 2700 block of Desert Wind Way, near the unincorporated village of Doña Ana. The victim, 48, told detectives with the Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Department that the defendant shot him after he told her to turn off her cell phone so they could sleep.

The defendant drove the victim to the hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound to his arm. However, she refused to let the him call 911, wouldn't tell investigators where the shooting occurred and said the firearm was somewhere off of Interstate 25.
