Las Cruces Woman Suspected of Burglarizing Vehicle Occupied by a 64-year-old Man

Police arrested a woman suspected of burglarizing a vehicle Tuesday evening while a 64-year-old man sat in the passenger seat.

Deziree Montes, 24, who resides at 999 W. Amador Ave., is charged with one count of burglary of a vehicle. The charge is a fourth-degree felony.

On the evening of Tuesday, Nov. 7, officers were dispatched to the report of an auto burglary in progress in the parking lot of the Motel 6 at 235 La Posada Lane.

Investigators learned that a 64-year-old man was sitting in the passenger seat of a Lincoln Navigator, waiting for his brother-in-law who had entered the hotel. As the man waited in the vehicle, a woman abruptly entered the driver’s-side door and sat down. The woman, later identified as Montes, exchanged words with the man as she rummaged through the vehicle.

The 64-year-old man held on to Montes to prevent her from leaving. At about the same time, the man’s brother-in-law approached the vehicle, stood near the driver’s-side door and also kept Montes from fleeing.

Officers arrived to find Montes clinching her legs together. Officers later determined that Montes was holding a wallet, stolen from the vehicle, between her legs.

Montes was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center. She was released Wednesday on a $2,000 unsecured bond.
