The City of Las Cruces Parks & Recreation Department is preparing for the upcoming baseball/softball season by enhancing the ball field playing surface and providing player safety improvements at Maag Park, Harty Complex and Apodaca Park athletic fields.
Crews are replacing grass in part of the infield/outfield transition-arc that has been worn down over time. The fields have been laser-leveled to a .5% slope to help with water sheet flow during major rain events and improve field recovery time following any rainfall. Warning tracks have been added to Maag Park along with the infield enhancements to assist with overall aesthetics and to improve safety for the athletes.
The fields will be closed until March 1, 2014. Parks & Rec. maintenance crews hope to have the work completed by February 21 and ready for play on March 1. The project has an approximate cost of $60,000. Anyone with questions can call the Parks & Recreation Department at 575/541-2550.
