Las Cruces Youth Leadership Summer Camp Registration Begins April 18

Registration for the Las Cruces Police Department’s second annual Youth Leadership Summer Camp will begin April 18.

The camp is expanded for 2016 and will now include three 2-week sessions:

  • Session 1: May 31 through June 10.
  • Session 2: June 20 through July 1.
  • Session 3: July 18-29.

Parents or guardians can register their youth for one of the three sessions. The camp is limited to 40 participants per session.

The Youth Leadership Summer Camp – a collaborative effort with the Stan Fulton Endowed Chair in Education at New Mexico State University – is for students ages 12-16 or who will be entering the 6thgrade during the upcoming academic year.

The camp will provide youth with CPR and First Aid training, teamwork building, D.A.R.E. and DWI simulations, anti-bullying and harassment lessons and other activities similar to the Character Counts module.

Each session of the camp will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at Lynn Middle School. The camp is free and includes a complimentary breakfast and lunch each day (breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m.). Participants will also receive a free camp T-shirt, water bottle and drawstring bag.

Parents or guardians can register students between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Las Cruces Police Department, 217 E. Picacho Ave. Registration will be open April 18 through May 6. Parents or guardians should bring proof of the student’s school and grade entering the upcoming school year and the student’s T-shirt size.

For more information about the camp, contact Sgt. Carlos Wooten at (575) 528-4289 or via email atcwooten@las-cruces.org.
