Las Cruces – Las Cruces Fire Department Deputy Chief Steve Mims has been named a division president of the International Association of Fire Chiefs.

Mims, who has served 17 years with LCFD, was appointed as president of the IAFC's Southwest division in September and will hold the post until October 2011. The Southwest division of IAFC includes chief officers, volunteer chiefs and managers of emergency service organizations in Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. The division serves as a liaison between its 1,100 members in the five states and the IAFC.

The International Association of Fire Chiefs represents the leadership of more than 1.2 million firefighters and emergency responders worldwide.

IAFC members include some of the world's leading experts in firefighting, emergency medical services, terrorism response, hazardous materials spills, natural disasters, search and rescue, and public safety legislation. IAFC provides its members a forum for exchanging ideas, and sharing information on the latest products and services available to first responders.
